چکیده

ABSTRACT Here, we report the new detection of three shock fronts using archival Chandra X-ray observations in Abell 1914, which also hosts a radio halo, phoenix, and head–tail galaxy. In this study, front at position further strengthens scenario that phoenix traces old plasma gets lit up when compressed by passage. Chandra Observations of the X-ray Jet in Centaurus A

We present high angular resolution X-ray images and spectra from two Chandra ACIS-I observations of the X-ray jet in the nearby radio galaxy Centaurus A. We find that the X-ray emission from the jet is composed of a low surface brightness diffuse component extending continuously from within at least 60 pc of the active nucleus into the NE radio lobe 4 kpc from the nucleus, along with 31 discret...

Chandra Observations of the X–ray Environment of BL Lacs

We present Chandra observations of the X–ray environment of a sample of 6 BL Lacertae objects. The improved sensitivity of the ACIS experiment allows us to separate the core X-ray emission from the contribution of diffuse emission from the host galaxy/cluster scales. Within the short (2–6 ks) ACIS exposures, we find evidence for diffuse X–ray emission in 3 sources (BL Lac, PKS 0548–322, and PKS...

Deep Chandra & Hubble Observations of Ngc 4697, the Nearest Optically Luminous, X-ray Faint Elliptical Galaxy

With NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, we have accumulated over two days of data from NGC 4697, the nearest optically luminous, X-ray faint elliptical galaxy. These observations provide one of the deepest views of low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs; binary stars, with one normal star with M.MSun and either a neutron star or black hole, which emit profuse amounts of X-rays) in an elliptical galaxy. ...

THE CHANDRA X-RAY OBSERVATORY Observations of Neutron Stars

We present here an overview of the status of the Chandra X-ray Observatory which has now been operating for five years. The Observatory is running smoothly, and the scientific return continues to be outstanding. We provide some details on the molecular contamination of the ACIS filters and its impact on observations. We review the observations with Chandra of the pulsar in the Crab Nebula and a...
